History and Photo Catalog of World Paper Money

Independent Somalia was created after unification of British and Italian Somaliland in 1960. In 1961 former British Somaliland seceded from Somalia and declared independence as Somaliland.

A brief monetary history:
- Somaliland Rupia = 100 Bese, till 1925
- Italian currency, 1925-1936
- Italian East Africa currency, 1936-1942
- East African Shilling = (24 Italian East African Lira), 1942-1950
- Somali = Lira = 100 Centisimi, 1950-1960
- Somali Shilling = (Shilin = Scelino) = 100 Cents, from 1960
