ITALIAN SOMALILAND banknotes - Italian Somaliland paper money catalog and history

Italian Colony until 1960, part of Italian East Africa (Eritrea, Italian Somaliland and Ethiopia) 1936-1942. Independent Somalia after unification of British and Italian Somaliland in 1960.

A brief monetary history:
- Somaliland Rupia = 100 Bese, till 1925
- Italian currency, 1925-1936
- Italian East Africa currency, 1936-1942
- East African Shilling = (24 Italian East African Lira), 1942-1950
- Somali = Lira = 100 Centisimi, 1950-1960
