Monetary union from 1974 in Central Africa of Congo, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon and Chad (former name Equatorial African States, 1960-1974), joined by Equatorial Guinea (Spanish colony till 1968) in 1984.

Banknotes issued between 1971 and 1992 had common designs and carry full country name. They are listed under specific country:
- C, from 2002 T - Congo
- E, from 2002 U - Cameroon
- F, from 2002 M - Central African Republic
- L, from 2002 A - Gabon
- N, from 2002 F - Equatorial Guinea (joined in 1984)
- P, from 2002 C - Chad

From 1993, country of issue is identified by the printed code letter (year of issue appears in 2 digits of the serial number):
